BACH’S B MINOR MASS

All are invited to participate in Bach’s B Minor Mass during the Pir Vilayat 100th Birthday Celebration, to be held June 16-19, 2016 at the Abode of the Message in New Lebanon, New York.

Sara Jobin, a Grammy-nominated conductor, will lead us in select sections of the Mass the evening of Saturday, June 18, from 6-8:15 pm. If you would like to participate, our rehearsal schedule and details can be found below.

REHEARSAL SCHEDULE (Abode Meditation Hall)

Sunday, June 12, 2-6

Monday, June 13, 10-12:30 and 2-6

Tuesday, June 14, 10-12:30 and 2-6

Wednesday, June 15, 10-12:30 and 2-6

Thursday, June 16, 10-12:30 and 2-6

Friday, June 17, 2-4 (Dress Rehearsal)

Saturday, June 18, 6-8:15 (Performance)

The program will benefit the Hope Project in New Delhi, India. There is a $20 suggested donation but we want your presence more than your money so please come regardless of financial status!

If you can’t make all the rehearsals, please come Sunday, June 12 at 2 pm anyway and let’s see what we can work out!

Please learn as much as you can before our first rehearsal, in this order:

Dona Nobis Pacem (it’s the last chorus)

Crucifixus (it’s around number 17, depending on your score)

Et resurrexit (follows the Crucifixus)

And, if you’re really ambitious, start learning the opening Kyrie. If there is a small group who excel and can rehearse, we may do a few more.

SARA JOBIN, a Grammy-nominated conductor, joins our program to lead Pir Vilayat’s favorite, Bach’s B-Minor Mass. Currently Resident Conductor of the Toledo Symphony and Opera and Chief Conductor of the Center for Contemporary Opera in New York, Jobin has conducted the opera companies in San Francisco, Arizona, Pittsburgh, Santa Barbara, Anchorage, Tacoma, and Idaho. She has also conducted the Dayton Philharmonic, Symphony Silicon Valley, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Szegedi Szimfonikus Zenekar at the Armel Festival, and the Bochumer Philharmoniker. Her first full-length recording, the American comedy Volpone by John Musto, was nominated for a 2010 Grammy. Sara currently lives in Toledo, Ohio.
